Sweating it out in 100+ temps on July 4, 2011

Hello! My name is Tina!
Welcome to my Website Shop!

On this website you will (eventually) find all sorts of goodies to help you build a website of your own (by yourself, or with my help), and info on becoming a home business owner like myself!

If you are interested in becoming a work-at-home-mom or dad…you’ve come to the right place!

Even if you’re not a parent, but would like to work from home, or just have a side business to make some extra money and/or provide a resource online…or if you’re someone (adult OR kid!) who’d like to create a website but is unsure of where to begin…

Stick around, there’s going to be lots of great things to discover at Tina’s Website Shop!

About Me:

I am a stay-at-home/work-at-home, homeschooling mama of 2. For my complete work experience, visit my LinkedIn page.

I started my first website when my oldest child was just an infant, back in early 2001, when I felt a need for a local family resource site, to catalog all the possible things to do with my child in our area. Nothing existed locally at the time that fulfilled my need, so  being the “doer” that I am, I went ahead and created something. I figured I could record all the info I found for myself, and as a bonus, share with others. Win-win!

Since then, that original site, Fresno Family, has become quite well-known in my area, and, at the writing of this, boasts over 600 visits a day. I’ve gotten to the point with it that I am helping others create similar sites for their own areas! Check out this page to learn more.

Next I felt a desire for a live chat site for mommies, so I created Mommy Chats in 2004. Shortly after it’s inception, I partnered up with Mothering Magazine and hosted their weekly topical chats for a nearly 3 years. Currently I’m in the process of revamping and reviving my own scheduled chats on Mommy Chats which is still open 24/7 for live chatting.

In 2010 I created a homeschool focused site, The Homeschool Realm. I created this site to be a place to share all things education…specifically focusing on our family’s homeschooling journey.

I also created Homeschool Podcasts around the same time…though its currently on hold.

Along the way, I also created and hosted sites for local nonprofit organizations, such as The Fresno BabyFest, a local event which I founded, created/hosted the website, and organized the event for 6 years (at its peak, there were some 1600 attendees and 90 vendors!), and The Learning Village Homeschool Resource Center of Fresno which I also founded, created/continue to host the website, and am also the President of the Board of Trustees and librarian.

Every one of these experiences have brought a new facet to my life’s education, and continue to expand my working knowledge on websites and small businesses and organizations.

All this because I thoroughly enjoy creating and working on websites, and working with people…and I love creating resources for people like me! I am constantly working on new ideas and learning new things to do with my websites. So much so that I decided that it was time for me to help others do something similar…and, to be honest, to help out our family financially. I’m sure everyone understands this need, especially these days!

About my abilities:

I am pretty proud of where I’ve come in my website abilities in the 11+ years I’ve been fiddling in this field. I am entirely self taught and I think that with the dabbling that I’ve done over the past decade or so, that I’ve evolved into a fairly decent webmama. Check out my portfolio and decide for yourself.

Let me be very clear about what I am NOT. I am not a professional web designer. I am not a coder. I am not a graphics designer. I haven’t been making sites for others for very long…the vast majority of my experience is teaching myself to make the sort of websites that *I* like, for ME (or friends or organizations I’m associated with). But that doesn’t mean that I can’t make a decent website. I think my portfolio speaks for itself.

What I think I have really going for me, for those that are looking for this, is that I will give you the personal touch of working with a work-at-home mom, that is not going to speak geekspeak to you and expect you to understand what the heck I’m talking about. And I’m not going to talk down to you either. I’m going to interact with you as I would a friend, and walk you through what you need to know and do to maintain your site after I’ve created it with you. Because my goal is to make you something that YOU can handle, for the most part, from here on out.

And because of the fact that I’m not a professional trying to make a fulltime living on the income from this site (my income is a part-time job that supplements my husband’s fulltime income. Still very much needed income, but I’m not ever going to work a 40 hour work week, as I am a fulltime homeschooling mom)…my rates will be lower than someone who is a professional and does this for a living. In many cases, significantly lower. Check out my “Hire the Webmama” page for more info on my rates.

My specialty is in helping people who have very little to no knowledge at all on creating a website. If you are looking for something super fancy with bells and whistles and hand coding, I’m not going to be able to help you…but if you want something that is simple yet sharp and professional looking…And most of all, affordable…I’m your webmama!

About what I do:

I build websites with WordPress only. This is my area of expertise and since its so very user friendly and fabulous, its all I need. WordPress has become an industry standard for so many web designers (even those much more talented than I!) because it makes the job of creating a fantastic website so much easier and it is so easy to teach newbies how to maintain it. I just LOVE it. Especially since there are plugins (most of them free!) that can do just about anything fancy that I would want, without me having to be an expert coder.

I also use a fantastic program called Artisteer to help me create custom themes for WordPress websites. I also can usually take a pre-existing WordPress theme and tweak it to look the way you want. (Depending on what you want, of course.)

I can help you figure out what it is that you want for a website, and help you structure the pages for most efficiency and user-friendliness. Combining the needs of you, the owner, with the needs of visitors, we can together create a really super site for your business or organization!

About my goals for Tina’s Website Shop:

I plan to fill this site full of resources for the newbie web designer, to help them get started in the quickest and simplest way. I will provide digital products for sale as well as provide my services to help every step of the way. A little virtual hand-holding to help you get up and running, so you can then take off and feel confident with your new website.

As time goes on, I’m sure I’ll think of new ideas and services and products to add to this site…For now, my focus is on helping the very beginner to get started with creating a web presence via a WordPress website and social media.
